Planet Earth Art Exhibit

The local arts organization sponsored several themed juried art exhibits this year, and the last on the list is the Planet Earth exhibit. My painting “Erosion” (which you can see here) was juried into this show, which you can read more about in that previous post too.

Below are more photos from the exhibit.

I hope everyone in the central Minnesota area can make it to see this show. Studio C is in the lower level of the Paramount building, which is directly downtown near the Falcon Bank. You can’t miss it. It’s an unusually strong show, in my opinion, and not because of my painting but because of the other artwork in it. There are some very unique pieces and I’m very happy to see St. Cloud art shows branching out into accepting more mixed media and collage and unusual things in general.

Art Crawl St. Cloud

I didn’t take a lot of photos Friday night during the art crawl, but I did get a few. We had a much larger crowd of people after these were taken so I didn’t have time to take more. It was a good art crawl, though I was expecting more people. But there was a time period of about an hour when the building was very crowded with people looking at our work. The cookies and food were a big hit too, of course.

Art Crawl November 18th -- before the bigger crowds came

The next art crawl isn’t until March 2012. If you saw something you liked and wanted to come by to purchase it later, just contact us using the contact forms above.

Next time I should have the ability to accept credit cards so that should make it easier for everyone to get the paintings they like and not worry about paying on the spot. We did sell a few things, but not as much as we had hoped. I talked to someone afterwards and suggested it might be because we don’t accept credit cards so finding a way to accept credit cards will be a priority for me for the next art crawl.

I also have a painting in the Planet Earth exhibit in Studio C at the Paramount. It’s titled “Erosion” and there is a photo on my website here. Please visit the Paramount to see the whole exhibit.

More of our artwork can also be seen in Little Falls at the GRAA art center downtown during their Wrap Up art show.

Women’s Showcase Art Show

Pictured above is “Pipestone”, a watercolor of the granite and pipestone quarry in southern Minnesota. This quarry looks like cliffs in Arizona, but it’s actually a part of a State Park called “Blue Mounds” and there are real buffalo that live there! I actually have some mineral watercolor paint made of the actual stone called pipestone, and some of that was used in this painting. Only a small amount is sold every year to various paint makers.

It turns out I’ll be a part of the Women’s Showcase after all, and it will be held on October 1st at the Civic Center in St. Cloud. It’s an all-day event with live music, displays, art, food, and the whole nine yards. I’m excited about the art show portion the most, of it of course.

I have a lot invested in this show, [painting, work, stress, and framing-wise], so I hope a lot of people come and visit the Civic Center on October 1st. I’ve never been to a “Women’s Showcase” before, to be honest, and I’m not sure exactly what to expect. The artists I have met so far who will be involved will be bringing interesting and exciting artwork to St. Cloud. Not many of them are actually from St. Cloud, either.

Blue Moonscape

This watercolor was painted mainly for a local art crawl art show that I was asked to be a part of. It’s the kind of watercolor I’d do all the time if I didn’t feel I had to do other things. These drippy kind of paintings are extremely fun to do. But not everything about paintings can be fun . . . an artist always feels they have to do things that might some day sell. At least, I do. I read something very true on Twitter a while ago (of all places). It was, “Whoever said painting was relaxing isn’t doing it right.”

Surprised? The stereotype of a painter is someone doing something rather zen-like. I find painting anything but relaxing, most of the time. It’s difficult. I’m not complaining, just stating a fact.

Glowing Water

This photo is unaltered and un-enhanced, except to make it smaller.

I love photography as much as painting — sometimes more, because the results can be as effortless as seeing something and instantly capturing it.  This is a photo from my camping trip last week to Glendalough state park, in Minnesota.  It’s near a small town called Battle Lake, and this lake is actually called Annie Battle Lake.  It’s a gorgeous, pristine lake and free of pollution. No motorized boats or watercraft are allowed on the lake and as a result, it’s in the same shape it was probably 200 years ago.  The water is so clear you can see the bottom of the lake 10, even 20 feet off the shore.  No doubt that increased the sun’s reflectivity off the water, and the outcome of this photo.  The golden color is the sun shining on the sand — under water.

I have quite a few versions of these photos and they will probably be for sale on Artspan in a few days.  (See my link to Artspan on the left).

New Project, Art Blog

Tulum Inverted

Welcome to the Experimental Blog at Offworld Graphics.

The experiment will be to see how often I can work on things and actually get them posted here as I progress on them.  This is mainly for my benefit but others might find it interesting too.

My art website has at times in the past been called Revolutionaryart.org but I renamed my main site to Leitworks.com and am now also using this one as my daily or weekly working blog.  Offworldgraphics has been around since 2004.  I’m just now turning it into a working site (instead of a splash page) so bookmark it and return soon.

Leitworks is my other art site.
